Why this exists, and how to actually use it.

Why SeasonEdge exists

I pulled my own real trade history - every closed position, going back years - and checked each one against the exact tools on this site: seasonality score, sector rotation. The signals were there. I just wasn't checking them consistently enough to act on most of them.

That gap - between a signal existing and actually using it - turned out to be the real problem. Not a missing piece of information, not a secret indicator nobody told me about. Just inconsistency, the most unglamorous reason there is.

Most trading education sells confidence up front and the actual method later, if it ever shows up at all. I wanted to build the opposite: publish the method and the real data behind it first, including every trade and backtest that didn't work, and let the results and backtests speak for themselves rather than ask you to take my word for it. That's what this site is - free tools built from a real process, with the receipts published alongside them.

This is an ongoing thing, not a one-time project - expect more strategies, more backtests, and more sharing along the way as it keeps growing.

How to use this site

Two tools, used together or on their own. Here's what each one actually means.

A seasonality score

Some stocks have historically tended to go up in certain calendar months more often than others - not every year, but often enough to be worth knowing. A seasonality score summarizes that tendency for a given stock and month: how often it closed higher than it started that month, going back as many years as there's reliable data for, with more recent years weighted a bit more heavily than older ones. A higher score means that month has historically leaned bullish for that stock; it says nothing about this specific year.

RRG (sector rotation)

An RRG plots a stock or sector against a benchmark on two axes: whether it's currently outperforming or underperforming (the ratio), and whether that outperformance is speeding up or slowing down (the momentum). Together those two axes sort everything into one of four quadrants:

  • Leading - outperforming, and still gaining momentum
  • Weakening - still outperforming, but losing momentum
  • Lagging - underperforming, and still losing momentum
  • Improving - still underperforming, but starting to gain momentum

Money tends to rotate through these quadrants in order (Improving → Leading → Weakening → Lagging → back to Improving), which is why it's called rotation. See it live, updated weekly, on the sector rotation dashboard.

Using them together

Seasonality tells you a stock has historically had good odds in a given month. RRG tells you whether money is actually rotating into it right now. Used together, they're two independent signals - and when both point the same direction, that's worth paying more attention to than either one alone.

How much that combination actually matters varies a lot from stock to stock - some tickers show a real edge when you add RRG as a filter, others don't. Rather than guess, we've backtested several versions of this combination (and seasonality alone, and RRG alone) against real historical data for individual tickers. Head to the backtest library to see exactly which approach has actually worked for the ticker you care about, or the public track record for real calls, wins and losses included.
